Linear Geometry

Original price was: ₹7,597.00.Current price is: ₹6,078.00.
This is essentially a book on linear algebra. But the approach is somewhat unusual in that we emphasise throughout the geometric aspect of the subject.

Louis Couturat: The History of Modern Symbolic Logic and Other French Manuscripts

Original price was: ₹12,809.00.Current price is: ₹10,248.00.
This volume features a critical edition of the recently rediscovered manuscripts written by the French philosopher Louis Couturat (1868-1914). It includes the transcriptions of three of his believed to be lost manuscripts: first the “Cours de Caen: 1898-99” on various systems of symbolic logic, second his lecture at the Collège de France “Histoire de la logique formelle moderne', and third his textbook on mathematical logic. The manuscripts document the early reception of mathematical logic in France and provide insights into the first introduction of the French reader to the work of Gottlob Frege and Bertrand Russell. It is the aim of the editors of this volume to contribute to the history of symbolic logic, particularly the history of its dissemination and its teaching in France. At the same time, the volume contributes to an alternative history and conception of philosophy in which semiotics and concrete mathematical practice stand in focus. The book is interesting for students and researchers in the history of philosophy, mathematics, and logic.

Martin Kneser Collected Works

Original price was: ₹18,021.00.Current price is: ₹14,418.00.
This volume presents the collection of mathematical articles by Martin Kneser, reprinted in the original language – mostly German –, including one yet unpublished. Moreover, also included is an article by Raman Parimala, discussing Kneser’s work concerning algebraic groups and the Hasse principle, which has been written especially for this volume, as well as an article by Rudolf Scharlau about Kneser’s work on quadratic forms, published elsewhere before. Another commentary article, written by Günter M. Ziegler especially for this volume, describes the astounding influence on the field of combinatorics of what was published as “Aufgabe 360” and its subsequent solution in 1955 resp. 1957 in the “Jahresbericht der Deutschen Mathematiker-Vereinigung”. However, as the titles of the articles show, Kneser’s mathematical interests were much broader, which is beautifully discussed in an obituary by Ulrich Stuhler, included as well in this volume.

Mathematical Control Theory: An Introduction

Original price was: ₹7,596.00.Current price is: ₹6,078.00.
This textbook presents, in a mathematically precise manner, a unified introduction to deterministic control theory. With the exception of a few more advanced concepts required for the final part of the book, the presentation requires only a knowledge of basic facts from linear algebra, differential equations, and calculus. In addition to classical concepts and ideas, the author covers the stabilization of nonlinear systems using topological methods, realization theory for nonlinear systems, impulsive control and positive systems, the control of rigid bodies, the stabilization of infinite dimensional systems, and the solution of minimum energy problems. This second edition includes new chapters that introduce a variety of topics, such as controllability with vanishing energy, boundary control systems, and delayed systems. With additional proofs, theorems, results, and a substantially larger index, this new edition will be an invaluable resource for students and researchers of control theory.Mathematical Control Theory: An Introduction will be ideal for a beginning graduate course in mathematical control theory, or for self-study by professionals needing a complete picture of the mathematical theory that underlies the applications of control theory. From reviews of the first edition:At last! We did need an introductory textbook on control which can be read, understood, and enjoyed by anyone. Gian-Carlo Rota, The Bulletin of Mathematics BooksIt covers a remarkable number of topics...The exposition is excellent, and the book is a joy to read. A novel one-semester course covering both linear and nonlinear systems could be given...The book is an excellent one for introducing a mathematician to control theory. Bulletin of the AMSIndeed, for mathematicians who look for the basic ideas or a general picture about the main branches of control theory, I believe this book can provide an excellent bridge to this area. Mathematical Geography in the Eighteenth Century: Euler, Lagrange and Lambert

Original price was: ₹12,809.00.Current price is: ₹10,248.00.
This volume presents the beautiful memoirs of Euler, Lagrange and Lambert on geography, translated into English and put into perspective through explanatory and historical essays as well as commentaries and mathematical notes. These works had a major impact on the development of the differential geometry of surfaces and they deserve to be studied, not only as historical documents, but most of all as a rich source of ideas.

Mathematical Image Processing

Original price was: ₹8,118.00.Current price is: ₹6,495.00.
This book addresses the mathematical aspects of modern image processing methods, with a special emphasis on the underlying ideas and concepts. It discusses a range of modern mathematical methods used to accomplish basic imaging tasks such as denoising, deblurring, enhancing, edge detection and inpainting. In addition to elementary methods like point operations, linear and morphological methods, and methods based on multiscale representations, the book also covers more recent methods based on partial differential equations and variational methods. Review of the German Edition: The overwhelming impression of the book is that of a very professional presentation of an appropriately developed and motivated textbook for a course like an introduction to fundamentals and modern theory of mathematical image processing. Additionally, it belongs to the bookcase of any office where someone is doing research/application in image processing. It has the virtues of a good and handy reference manual. (zbMATH, reviewer: Carl H. Rohwer, Stellenbosch)
