Amenable Banach Algebras

Original price was: ₹ 9,509.00.Current price is: ₹ 7,607.00.
This volume provides readers with a detailed introduction to the amenability of Banach algebras and locally compact groups. By encompassing important foundational material, contemporary research, and recent advancements, this monograph offers a state-of-the-art reference. It will appeal to anyone interested in questions of amenability, including those familiar with the author’s previous volume Lectures on Amenability. Cornerstone topics are covered first: namely, the theory of amenability, its historical context, and key properties of amenable groups. This introduction leads to the amenability of Banach algebras, which is the main focus of the book. Dual Banach algebras are given an in-depth exploration, as are Banach spaces, Banach homological algebra, and more. By covering amenability’s many applications, the author offers a simultaneously expansive and detailed treatment. Additionally, there are numerous exercises and notes at the end of every chapter that further elaborate on the chapter’s contents. Because it covers both the basics and cutting edge research, Amenable Banach Algebras will be indispensable to both graduate students and researchers working in functional analysis, harmonic analysis, topological groups, and Banach algebras. Instructors seeking to design an advanced course around this subject will appreciate the student-friendly elements; a prerequisite of functional analysis, abstract harmonic analysis, and Banach algebra theory is assumed.

An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Based on Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces

Original price was: ₹ 4,279.00.Current price is: ₹ 3,423.00.
This textbook provides an in-depth exploration of statistical learning with reproducing kernels, an active area of research that can shed light on trends associated with deep neural networks. The author demonstrates how the concept of reproducing kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHS), accompanied with tools from regularization theory, can be effectively used in the design and justification of kernel learning algorithms, which can address problems in several areas of artificial intelligence. Also provided is a detailed description of two biomedical applications of the considered algorithms, demonstrating how close the theory is to being practically implemented. Among the book’s several unique features is its analysis of a large class of algorithms of the Learning Theory that essentially comprise every linear regularization scheme, including Tikhonov regularization as a specific case. It also provides a methodology for analyzing not only different supervised learning problems, such as regression or ranking, but also different learning scenarios, such as unsupervised domain adaptation or reinforcement learning. By analyzing these topics using the same theoretical framework, rather than approaching them separately, their presentation is streamlined and made more approachable. An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Based on Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces is an ideal resource for graduate and postgraduate courses in computational mathematics and data science.

Analysis

Original price was: ₹ 8,083.00.Current price is: ₹ 6,466.00.
This textbook covers the main results and methods of real analysis in a single volume. Taking a progressive approach to equations and transformations, this book starts with the very foundations of real analysis (set theory, order, convergence, and measure theory) before presenting powerful results that can be applied to concrete problems. In addition to classical results of functional analysis, differential calculus and integration, Analysis discusses topics such as convex analysis, dissipative operators and semigroups which are often absent from classical treatises. Acknowledging that analysis has significantly contributed to the understanding and development of the present world, the book further elaborates on techniques which pervade modern civilization, including wavelets in information theory, the Radon transform in medical imaging and partial differential equations in various mechanical and physical phenomena. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students, engineers as well as practitioners wishing to familiarise themselves with concepts and applications of analysis will find this book useful. With its content split into several topics of interest, the book’s style and layout make it suitable for use in several courses, while its self-contained character makes it appropriate for self-study.

Beyond Sobolev and Besov

Original price was: ₹ 5,230.00.Current price is: ₹ 4,184.00.
This book investigates the close relation between quite sophisticated function spaces, the regularity of solutions of partial differential equations (PDEs) in these spaces and the link with the numerical solution of such PDEs. It consists of three parts. Part I, the introduction, provides a quick guide to function spaces and the general concepts needed. Part II is the heart of the monograph and deals with the regularity of solutions in Besov and fractional Sobolev spaces. In particular, it studies regularity estimates of PDEs of elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic type on non smooth domains. Linear as well as nonlinear equations are considered and special attention is paid to PDEs of parabolic type. For the classes of PDEs investigated a justification is given for the use of adaptive numerical schemes. Finally, the last part has a slightly different focus and is concerned with traces in several function spaces such as Besov– and Triebel–Lizorkin spaces, but also in quite general smoothness Morrey spaces. The book is aimed at researchers and graduate students working in regularity theory of PDEs and function spaces, who are looking for a comprehensive treatment of the above listed topics.

Characterizing Groupoid C*-algebras of Non-Hausdorff Étale Groupoids

Original price was: ₹ 3,803.00.Current price is: ₹ 3,042.00.
This book develops tools to handle C*-algebras arising as completions of convolution algebras of sections of line bundles over possibly non-Hausdorff groupoids. A fundamental result of Gelfand describes commutative C*-algebras as continuous functions on locally compact Hausdorff spaces. Kumjian, and later Renault, showed that Gelfand's result can be extended to include non-commutative C*-algebras containing a commutative C*-algebra. In their setting, the C*-algebras in question may be described as the completion of convolution algebras of functions on twisted Hausdorff groupoids with respect to a certain norm. However, there are many natural settings in which the Kumjian–Renault theory does not apply, in part because the groupoids which arise are not Hausdorff. In fact, non-Hausdorff groupoids have been a source of surprising counterexamples and technical difficulties for decades. Including numerous illustrative examples, this book extends the Kumjian–Renault theory to a much broader class of C*-algebras. This work will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in the area of groupoid C*-algebras, the interface between dynamical systems and C*-algebras, and related fields.

Course in Functional Analysis

Published on 2010
Functional analysis has become a sufficiently large area of mathematics that it is possible to find two research mathematicians, both of whom call themselves functional analysts, who have great difficulty understanding the work of the other. The common thread is the existence of a linear space with a topology or two (or more). Here the paths diverge in the choice of how that topology is defined and in whether to study the geometry of the linear space, or the linear operators on the space, or both. In this book I have tried to follow the common thread rather than any special topic. I have included some topics that a few years ago might have been thought of as specialized but which impress me as interesting and basic. Near the end of this work I gave into my natural temptation and included some operator theory that, though basic for operator theory, might be considered specialized by some functional analysts.

Crossed Products of C*-Algebras, Topological Dynamics, and Classification

Original price was: ₹ 6,181.00.Current price is: ₹ 4,944.00.
This book collects the notes of the lectures given at an Advanced Course on Dynamical Systems at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) in Barcelona. The notes consist of four series of lectures. The first one, given by Andrew Toms, presents the basic properties of the Cuntz semigroup and its role in the classification program of simple, nuclear, separable C*-algebras. The second series of lectures, delivered by N. Christopher Phillips, serves as an introduction to group actions on C*-algebras and their crossed products, with emphasis on the simple case and when the crossed products are classifiable. The third one, given by David Kerr, treats various developments related to measure-theoretic and topological aspects of crossed products, focusing on internal and external approximation concepts, both for groups and C*-algebras. Finally, the last series of lectures, delivered by Thierry Giordano, is devoted to the theory of topological orbit equivalence, with particular attention to the classification of minimal actions by finitely generated abelian groups on the Cantor set.
